Açıklama
Although the history of Turkish tile art is traced back to the Uyghurs in the eighth and ninth centuries, it came to Anatolia with the Seljuks in the eleventh century and, enriched by different cultures, reached its peak in the sixteenth century under the Ottoman Empire.
In recent years, interest in classical tiles appears to have been on the rise again, thanks to the radiance and richness of pattern they bring to spaces. Today, while efforts are being made to keep the art of tilemaking alive through extensive applications in centers such as İznik and Kütahya, tilemaking is taught at educational institutions at various levels, particularly universities, and is becoming more widespread through courses offered by local governments in many cities across our country and by private workshops.
This book was prepared to shed light on the history of tile art in chronological order and to describe its stylistic, motif, and compositional features, as well as the stages involved in making and applying tiles. Our greatest hope is that its rich illustrations, detailed drawings, and ease of use will make it a helpful resource in tilemaking courses and guide tile enthusiasts when an instructor is unavailable.
