The victor praises his dead as heroes, the vanquished as culprits. Yet in war, the dead lie arm in arm beneath the earth. And their souls fight and suffer for years on the battlefields. The expression “war for peace” is a senseless, illogical piece of sophistry. Just as senseless are the expressions “dying to live,” “suffering to enjoy oneself,” and “being unhappy to be happy.” Man in our time is in an inner war, in inner chaos, for he is completely a victim of illusion. To achieve peace, man must overcome inner chaos. But if anyone tries to comfort him, he treats him as an enemy, for comfort is a waste of time that will not bring you to peace. If one does not fight in the inner war, one must fight in the war outside. For if one goes to war within, fights, triumphs, and ends the war, then the war outside also ends. That is the only way to achieve peace!
