Piyale Pasha

The reign of Suleiman the Magnificent constitutes the peak of the Ottoman Empire's naval successes. During this period, many sailors from Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha to Turgut Reis, and from Oruç Reis to Piyale Pasha were raised, and they made the Ottoman navy the sole authority on the seas.

This work, titled Conqueror of the Seas Piyale Pasha, narrates the life of Piyale Pasha, the greatest Kapudan Pasha of the Magnificent era after Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha, and the Battle of Djerba, one of his most important campaigns that solidified Ottoman dominance in the Mediterranean. A part of this study consists of the translation into modern Ottoman Turkish of the work titled Conquest of Djerba Castle, written by one of the important scholars of the period, Şaban Nidâî, the original manuscript of which is located in the British Library in London.

In this work, prepared by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şimşirgil, who made Ottoman history loved by everyone with the "Kayı" series, and İbrahim Pazan, there is also a facsimile of the conquest record written in exquisite calligraphy. With this feature, the work will be one of the bedside books for those who want to learn Ottoman Turkish, and it will also fill a great void in the field of Ottoman Naval History, where very few studies have been conducted.
