Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Book Description
Barbaros Hayreddin Hızır Reis was the Sultan of Algiers. At a sign from Suleiman the Magnificent, he placed the deed to the sultanate before the Sultan. He became a symbol of unity and solidarity. Setting sail into the Mediterranean at the head of the Ottoman armada, Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha inflicted a crushing defeat on the largest Crusader fleet ever assembled by European powers at Preveza in 1538. As the Mediterranean was transformed into a Turkish lake, Europeans became unable to even float a piece of wood upon its waters.
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şimşirgil recounts in striking detail in this book the lineage of this most important figure in Turkish maritime history, the incredible struggle he waged alongside his brother Oruç and his fellow mujahideen against both pirate ships and the Spanish, his success in the fields of administration and politics upon becoming the ruler of Algiers, the suffering he endured for the Muslims of Andalusia, the legendary heroism with which he blocked the Spanish from establishing a foothold in the Maghreb, and finally his journey after becoming the Kapudan Pasha (Grand Admiral) of the Ottoman Empire.
The Man Who Made History Loved, with this work, lays before the eyes of the readers the epic life of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha, the pride of Turkish maritime history.
