Wonders of Creation…
A classic work written by Zakariya ibn Mahmud al-Qazwini…
A pageant of worlds and beings. Indeed, a vision of the universe in its own right.
Translated into Turkish, the work unfolds within a cosmology shaped by Islam, woven through the gaze as it moves from above to below—in the broadest sense, from the heavens to the earth, or from the unseen to the seen.
“The book concludes with the weakest creatures. Indeed, it began with the greatest creatures. The Throne belongs to God.” Ending with these words, it also sums up the hierarchy underlying the way we view beings and the universe.
Cosmological elements, the world of living things, imaginary beings, and their principal attributes are presented to the reader across ten chapters, accompanied by edifying tales. What makes the book valuable is the strength of the language on which it is built and of its translation. Through language, the eye roams almost every world, and the realm of imagination as well as the world of living things. A true reading telescope spanning the old world and modern times. A richly colored, multifaceted gaze from the East upon the human story.
