The Germans used to love the Turks for their industriousness. We were a nation that knew no deceit and consumed nothing forbidden. We proved this with our hard work. We intended to earn money and return. We planned to buy a tractor and build a house. We postponed our dreams and made this place our home. We bought houses and land, and stayed here. Many of us came from Anatolia with joy and delight, carrying dreams with us. We fell ill and weak, were placed in coffins, and returned. Our coffins remained in Anatolia, while our kin stayed in Europe. Our only dream that had not been fulfilled was to return to Anatolia in a coffin.
