Açıklama
Based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) hadith, “O Ali! Write down my features, for seeing my attributes is like seeing me,” the Prophet’s qualities were recorded by Ali. This gave rise to works in the genres of shama’il and hilye, destined to shine like a light in the imagination of those who love the Prophet. Hilye, written by Hâkānî Mehmed Bey in the mesnevi verse form between 1598 and 1599, is a work in which he expresses his love and devotion to the Prophet by depicting His physical and spiritual portrait. The exceptional place held in our literature by Hilye-i Hâkānî, one of the masterpieces of Turkish-Islamic literature, calls to mind Süleyman Çelebi’s Mevlid—Vesîletü’n-Necât. Like Süleyman Çelebi, Hâkānî inspired other poets to create similar works and, as it were, invited practitioners of other arts, such as calligraphy and music, to turn their attention to his inspiring work. The book in your hands has been produced on the basis of a copy of Hilye-i Hâkānî written in 1843 in naskh script by Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi, one of the most important representatives of the art of calligraphy. Bringing together two immortal treasures of our literature and calligraphy, this work has been prepared by M. Uğur Derman and İskender Pala, two distinguished contemporary representatives of calligraphy and literature.
