When I say “I,” I’m not declaring myself guilty and you innocent. In fact, that person is guilty too. We will talk about what you, that person, and I have done—the sins and mistakes we have all made. When you come across this “I” in quotation marks as you read the book, understand it generally to refer to pride, insatiable desire, excessive self-admiration, acting superior, selfishness, jealousy, loving too much, being excessively possessive, double standards, and ambition, even though the meaning may vary slightly from one context to another. Understand it as the collective name for these ten words above, these ten concepts, these ten emotions.
